Varieties of Pleonasm
Pleonasm is a figure of speech that uses redundant words or phrases. Russian language has a number of pleonastic constructions:
- "Addressing to an address"
- "Heading in a specified direction"
- "Using all unused resources"
These constructions are examples of c. tautology, where the same idea is expressed twice using different words or phrases.
Other examples of tautology in Russian:
- "Собственными глазами" (literally "with own eyes")
- "Свободная свобода" ("free freedom")
- "Точное совпадение" ("exact coincidence")
